also for some reason the captions for both episodes occasionally had discrepancies between what was said and what the captions said? at first i thought it was just an oddity but it actually seems that the captions were drawing on an earlier version of the script that was a slightly more direct translation (b/c one of the differences was a change of dialog for prof oak that the bulbapedia trivia section for the episode pointed out & the captions saying that iris said ‘kanoko town’ when refering to nuvema town)

And Christ this first scene in the second episode really cements those “ash is kukui’s kid” theories. He really called a volt tackle on himself.
