My favourite thumbprint sugar cookies recipe!!! (Super easy because I'm crap at baking)
I've been told I'm good at writing out recipes so here!!! Use wisely
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup (230 grams) unsalted butter, softened
2/3 cup (135 grams) granulated sugar plus 3 tablespoons (40 grams) for rolling the cookies (I don't do the rolling because I'm lazy but it's probably good)
2 large egg yolks room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 and 1/3 cups (290 grams) all-purpose flour spooned & leveled
1/2 cup strawberry or apricot jam (I use Smucker's double fruit raspberry jam, specifically the double fruit one it just hits different)
STEPS:
1) Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats and set aside.
2) In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, or in a large mixing bowl using a handheld mixer, cream together the butter and sugar for 1-2 minutes or until well combined.
If you're a pussy like me and the handheld mixer makes a big mean scary noise you can totally use a fork and a spoon to cream your butter. Also only rich people own stand mixers.
3) Mix in the eggs yolks, vanilla extract, and salt until fully combined, then mix in the flour. The mixture will be a little crumbly at first but it will come together as you continue mixing it.
If you're a slow-poke like me and your dough dries out a little while you're reading the recipe for the 200th time because you have the short-term memory of a drunk toddler, you're gonna need more butter than you think. Do the recipe like it says, and keep some melted butter on the side so you can add it while you're shaping the cookies.
4) Using a one-tablespoon cookie scoop or measuring tablespoon, measure out the cookie dough, roll into balls, roll each one in granulated sugar (optional), then place on the prepared baking sheets.
If you think you can shape them without a cookie scoop you're wrong they'll still be good but they'll look like nuclear waste.
5) Use your thumb (or the handle of a large wooden spoon) to press an indentation into each ball of cookie dough. Spoon 1/2 teaspoon of jam into the indentation in each one.
Fuck apricot jam on principle, raspberry is superior. I use a baby spoon to scoop it in the cookies.
6) Bake at 350°F (177°C) for 12-14 minutes or until the cookies are set and the bottoms are lightly browned. For the love of god don't use foil instead of parchment paper, I know it makes less mess but your cookies will taste like the bottom of a toaster.
Remove from the oven and cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes, then carefully transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
On another note, would you guys want me to make a master post of my art?? It occurred to me that I haven't been tagging it and it's hard to find my work even for me... Oops?
Bwideau’s Art Master Post!
So... I haven’t been tagging my stuff properly, which makes finding my art on my blog a chore. Here’s a labeled collection of my posted work for those who might want to find things a little more easily! I’ll also be updating the tags to #my art so you can look it up directly on my blog. Links below the cut, enjoy!
Please comment/reblog with the lining brush you use for digital art!!
I can't find one that I like! I'd like something solid but slightly textured, that can go really small without looking like pixelated garbage. Any recommendations?
For Kovira! 💔, ☁️, [the megaphone emoji] and 🙉!
Thank you for this opportunity to gush about my favourite grumpy Romulan 🥺
💔 BROKEN HEART - what could their partner do that would absolutely break their heart?
Any kind of betrayal. The Romulan military (and honestly Romulan society is general) isn't big on trust. Romulans are very private people, who are extremely careful whom they form relationships with. After nearly a year of finally learning how to trust Faelleen, having her break that trust would probably shatter any hope that she can actually trust anyone.
☁️ CLOUD - a soft headcanon
My girl's a cuddler. Honestly, it all comes back to the trust issues, she's like a cat; she decided on this Single Person that she trusts, and now she'll stick to her like a barnacle while pretending it's all for Faelleen's sake. (Faelleen, being clingy in general, has absolutely no issues with this)
📣 MEGAPHONE - how loud are they? what do they speak like? got a voice claim?
She's pretty quiet, thanks to extensive military training. She's got a smooth, slightly lower voice and is very good at stripping all emotion from it if need be. She's got a bit of an accent, since she doesn't use a universal translator to speak Standard, but nothing that would jump out at you.
🙉 HEAR-NO-EVIL - what is the worse thing your oc could hear from someone?
That she's failed. There's no place for failure where she's from, because there's no trust to back you up when you fail. You fuck up, you get replaced. Hearing that she's let someone down, especially someone she cares about, would screw her up big time.
For Fae: 💢,🕷 and 🌠?
Blokie you spoil me by letting me talk about my girls!!!!!
💢 ANGER - what are some habits they have that will take some getting used to?
My girl Faelleen's got a short fuse! She's gotten pretty good at not decking people for minor things, but she's definitely gotten in trouble for mouthing off at the wrong person. (And for the occasional bar fight, but she still thinks the fuckers deserved it)
🕷️ SPIDER - what is their biggest fear? do they have any irrational / mundane fears?
Her biggest fear is losing loved ones. That, combined with the aforementioned short fuse, makes for a rather explosive mix when faced with any kind of perceived threat to a friend/family member. It makes her come off as slightly clingy and overprotective at times.
As for mundane fears? Bugs. She somehow found a wasp nest in a jefferies tube once and woke Kovira up in a panic to take care of it. Poor Kove woke up to the normally confident Human freaking the fuck out and immediately assumed they were under attack. Fun times.
🌠 SHOOTING STAR - if they could make any wish with no repercussions, what wish would they make?
She'd never admit it, but she'd wish to have kept Kovira with her after they managed to get back home. At the time, she simply assumed the two of them would eventually part ways, and they ended up not seeing each other again for nearly eight years.
