Let’s check the dictionary:

Because this is a term mostly used in animation let’s first define the specifics of its meaning in the field it’s commonly used in!

Note that the focal text is highlighted in the search results and not the first sentence here (this is meant for Lily btw!)

When you are going “on-model” it’s strictly referring to staying close to the character sheet or model in this case!

In this “example” we have someone confusing the term with another word!

The correct word would be homage.

Homage is when you make a reference or tie to particular pieces of media as a callback or way to make light of the similarities.

So why isn’t it on-model then?

Simple

It isn’t; if it had been there wouldn’t be the details the redraw has.

It’s good practice to keep a character sheet handy even if you’ve been drawing your ocs for years! Especially for animation and for others to draw! Showing you and others the way the character:

Emotes

Moves

Dress

As well as general dimension and depth of the design! Like what do they look like from the front or back? Do they have specific markings or bumps? Where should a, b, c, etc go if the character is doing or facing blank?

Bwion (Life of Bwion)

Most importantly; what colors are they? Bonus points for hex codes! It’s important especially in the industry to make sure the whole team is aware of these things so nothing gets lost or the character suddenly changes!

Anyways I’m probably going to be sharing mostly traditional art and little digital stuff due to “recent events”

Bwion is at the moment 4(or 5) years old his birthday is in late October!

He is a funky blue kiwi who just wants to have fun, be silly, do art and make friends! He might not be able to read or write, he certainly makes up for it with his impeccable art skills! Where he draws his muse, Chumderp!

Bwion and Chumderp are proud squirmle parents and have rescued three as of today!
