Even if we make mistakes, this blogs format gives us no chance to correct it without first being ridiculed, bullshit about not being about harming the artists, the more followers this blog gets the more it will hurt the artists, because not everyone who sees these post will be so kind as you to hold back from yelling at a 13 year old about how racist they are, bullshit about not harming the artists, I know I'm not making any more Hamilton art after seeing how picky and unforgiving this blog is
Honestly, this blog has under 50 followers. We don’t have a large audience like that. This blog is being shaped by all the new people that have been added as mods and we are going to do our best to make sure this blog is constructive. We are not trying to scare off Hamilton fans or make anyone lose followers, so we’re sorry if your follower count has taken a hit. However, when we, as people of color, see something that depicts us inaccurately, we are not going to sit quiet.
Hamilton is about PoC, by PoC, for PoC, so I’m sure you can understand why we so adamantly defend something that gives us a spotlight in a medium that is as white washed as theatre. Some of us with theatre experience (Mod Melissa-10 years acting/technical/directing, Mod Lynne- 5 years dancing, Mod Nycto- 2+ years of being on a competitive performing arts team, 2 musicals, and choir in like 5 years) know first hand the type of racism and colorism that is ever-present in performing arts, so when something as revolutionary as Hamilton comes along and says that we too deserve lead roles and Tony Awards and to be Best Musical and Best Actor and Best Direction and all of these things that Hamilton is, we will defend it. Respectfully, Hamilton is not about white people. We are not here to see fellow PoC FINALLY get representation then have it wiped away and go unnoticed, and if that means an artist who cannot depict PoC as PoC stops using ACTUAL PoC in their art, then I guess that’s how it is. But as you have said, you are not interested in correcting your art.
Have a nice day.
