" 'God loves me, not because I’m good, but because he’s good.' — Romans 5:8. We are loved. This should be the genesis thought of every day. Not because of how terrific we are. God doesn’t base his thoughts toward us on our own fragile efforts. God’s love isn’t based on us. It’s simply placed on us. And it’s the place from which we should live . . . loved." . . . I don't know about you, but if I'm honest, the "genesis thought" of my day isn't always "God loves me" or "I am loved." Often, the first thought--or the first several thoughts really--are more occupied with to-do lists, moodiness, distractions, etc., leaving little room for the thought of God's love to permeate my mind. I'm so busy thinking about what I have to do (or what I'm failing to do), I miss out on the opportunity to simply take in the beautiful morning and experience God's love and delight in me. . . . From the world's perspective, our worthiness of love/praise may be centered around what we can do or offer, but in Christ we are freed because our worthiness is centered on the unfailing, unconditional, and unending Love of God. How different would our lives look if our thoughts and actions came from this core belief that God loves us deeply, *independent* of whatever we may say or do? How would that not only affect the way we live out our lives, but also the way we inspire others to live theirs? . . . The more we center our thoughts around who we are or what we do, the easier it is to feel pessimistic, jaded, and insecure. However, when we intentionally (and regularly) place ourselves in a position to simply receive God's grace and love, we are set free from all expectations, and experience joy and fulfillment in JESUS, not in ourselves.
