This is a special year to me as I published my own book! 😀 《一言既出》From the Horse’s Mouth is a compilation of articles I wrote for My Paper and Lianhe Wanbao over four years. I shared observations and thoughts based on my experiences growing up in Singapore and serving the community as a MP, as well as my take on arts, culture, language, the Singapore way of life and other topical issues. To make this book more meaningful, I managed to find a sponsor to help with the production costs, so that all sale proceeds can be used to serve the community. We will use the funds raised to set up a new bursary to help needy students of Tampines North. More details will be announced early next year. I am grateful to many people for being part of this journey: inspiration for my articles, publication and publicity of the book, buying and reading it. The quote in Chinese is taken from my new book “From the horse’s mouth”. Can you recognise the Xinyao (新谣) songs within? That quote was a reflection of a very special Saturday in 2014 where I had the privilege of joining many fellow Hwa Chong alumni for a song-filled fundraising event. My alma maters, former-Hwa Chong JC and Catholic High School, have shaped me greatly. To keep our values and traditions alive, my senior writer-composer Liang Wenfu (梁文福) and I will be holding a conversation to reminisce our old school days on 24 Nov (Fri), 8.00 - 10.00pm at 222 Queen Street (former Catholic High School campus). Congratulations to #TampinesNorth students from our Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) on receiving their Edusave awards last Sunday! At the ceremony, I had a dialogue with the students and their parents to better understand their aspirations and concerns. This also allows us to get to know one another better. At this session, I shared that I will be starting a new bursary award next year for Tampines IHL students. It is called the Bilingual Youth Kindle award and is funded by the sales of my book. I hope to help up to five deserving bilingual students each year and the sum of the award would support them in their studies. Do continue to follow my social media accounts for more updates on this award in the following months. Visited residents of #Tampines Blk 405 on Wednesday evening. Happy to meet 91-year old Mr Peter Kow who is very independent and volunteers daily at his church and nursing homes. He was very proud of his International Volunteer medal and various awards. Thank you to those who supported the fundraising of our new bursary by buying my book 《一言既出 From the Horse’s Mouth》. During the visit, I also spoke about the upcoming HIP polling in September and helped to address some queries.
