Bylermeter Update
In a video recently I put my "Bylermeter" (the odds I think Byler happens) at 80%:
When I saw a likely glimpse of an out and proud Will in the epilogue, I increased that number to 85%.
But now they sheerly gratuitously teased a love triangle with their latest promo, with Finn/Mike saying he has a dinner date and Gaten/Dustin asks "With who?" with Mike hesitating and Will and El outside the room.
This is diabolical!
As I and many others have said, if Mike and Will are NOT going to be together, the responsible thing for the showrunners (who are politically progressive) to do is not string audiences along and not queerbait, and dispel the rumors now so that they aren't accused of furthering this pernicious practice.
They are playing with fire; if the general audience starts catching on that the show itself is teasing the triangle then, as I say in my Byler video, the pendulum of public opinion will swing HARD toward Byler and people will predict it'll be endgame, because of how poorly the show has portrayed Milev*n, Mike and Will's chemistry, and how sympathetic the show has made Will and how strong his love for Mike has been portrayed. The backlash if Byler doesn't happen would be huge...
... unless Byler IS happening after all.
So! I would love to put my Byler Meter at 90%, but I doubt I can in good conscience put it above 90% before seeing Volume 1, because there are other possibilities. (Also, there's bound to be more promos.)
So I retract my previous rating of 85%, lower it to 83%, so I can increase it now to 85%. Happy? =D
