A quiet one this week, due in part to the snow and also the fact that it's been a lot of work in progress rather than the completion stage.
That said, there's been a raft of emails go out the door. In time honoured tradition, as the snow fell, One Black Bear leapt into action on behalf of Subaru to get a weather related communication out the door. Not particularly exciting, yet very important news, is that we had an extremely good meeting with an existing client about renewing the contract on improved terms. This at the same time as another client also agreeing to a better trading relationship. As vague as it sounds, of course I can't name names but suffice to say it means that this week has proven to be one of the biggest in the agency's five year history. We interviewed a couple of candidates today for a digital designer apprenticeship. Very disappointing. We're prepared to offer a young, passionate, ambitious person the opportunity of a lifetime and neither of them turn up with a jot of design work. They can't be blamed entirely though and the agency that pushed us to do this will be getting told what we think of them. They're letting these kids down and wasting all our time. However, we have a 3rd year degree student coming in on Monday to discuss the possibility of a 12 month internship. Hopefully this will go better.
Shadow Giants continues to have conversations (no pun intended) with lots of exciting new people and we hope to be talking (sorry, I just can't help myself) in more detail with them soon. On top of this, a couple of the 'Giants' attended the BYPY launch last night and were amazed at how many people had heard of us. Word is certainly getting out (I'll stop now).
A hectic week at The Unagency as the brochure for The Rep was prepped for print and the outdoor campaign begins to take shape. The pitch that we've been busy on resulted in the fourth meeting taking place and we're now discussing typefaces, which we take as a good sign. Alas, you can never tell.
As for sharing stuff we've seen: This website which uses movement recognition through your webcam to control the content you see. Warning: a bit harrowing. An interesting take on how big brands are using social media but ignoring the traditional, more private communication channels. Finally, a light hearted tumblr blog on the nonsense that some/most agencies spout.
