Finally - a lull in activity in Storybrooke had presented exactly the window of opportunity that Rumple had been hoping for. Before another situation could arise and the heroes could come running to them for help, he had planned out a trip for him and Belle. After everything that had gone wrong lately, they could use the time alone together.

So he had packed up the car, and off they went, on their way to New York. Their honeymoon had turned sour, and he saw this as a great way to make up for it. A do-over honeymoon, away from any trace of magic. Their bags were stowed in the back, his cane was within easy reach, and Belle was by his side.

He reached over and took her hand, squeezing it warmly. “Only a few more minutes, and we should start to see the skyscrapers.”

Being the Dark One, Rumplestiltskin had always been fond of dramatic entrances; and, with Cinderella’s ball fast approaching, he had decided on the perfect way to approach her and remind her of their deal. 

The only problem was that he had absolutely no idea how to dance, and that was the best way to speak to her without interruption - if he were to cut in without being noticed beforehand, knowing she wouldn’t have told her prince about their deal, then she would be forced to pretend as if nothing was wrong. 

He stormed through the castle in what could be considered his usual grumpy manner, seeking out his maid. The moment he found her in the main room, he didn’t hesitate to speak up, no matter how odd he was sure it would sound to her. 

“I need to learn to dance!” She was royalty - surely she had been forced to attend a ball or two in her lifetime.

Belle plops down on the couch beside her love. Without a word, she snuggles up to him and kisses his neck. [ bytherose ]

He wraps an arm snugly around her waist, holding her close to him. He doesn’t say anything -- this is one of those times when it isn’t necessary to talk. Belle knows how much he loves her, and Rumplestiltskin wants nothing more than to simply enjoy this moment. They’ve both been so busy of late that it feels like ages since they’ve had the time to... well, be together. He wants it to last.

Haunt Me [bytherose]

He’s always there.

He’s there when she wakes in the morning, dragging herself out of {what used to be THEIR} bed and into {what used to be THEIR} kitchen to make herself breakfast. He’d used to do that for her. He hadn’t been the best of chefs, and more than once, he’d nearly caught the house on fire in an attempt to make blueberry pancakes. 

She had laughed. No matter how terrible his cooking, she had always eaten it with a smile. Now, when she burns her toast, she cries, and he is HELPLESS to do anything to ease her suffering. She’s alive and he’s gone, and when he reaches out a hand to wipe away her tears, she can’t feel it.

But, he stays. He’s always there. Always with her.

He’s there when she gets to the library, and her hands shake so much that she drops her keys while trying to unlock the doors. He gave her those keys.

He’s there when she stops by the pawnshop after work, only to sit in the back room beside his wheel and watch it spin. Helps me forget, he’d told her once. Is that what she’s trying to do, now?

He’s there when she arrives home, when she eats the sparse supper she’s picked up from Granny’s, and when she lies down on what had been HIS side of the bed and hugs the pillow.

He lies down beside her and brushes his fingers against her cheek. “Goodnight, Rumple,” she whispers.

“Goodnight, sweetheart.” 

And, when she smiles, he wonders if she’s finally heard him.
