It hurt to look at them. Less because of their frayed state, but more because of the way they held themselves. In most of her memories Phantom had always been so strong of mind and stalwart. Lace had always admired them so, wished to be as strong as them. Indeed, whatever strength she had whether of body or mind she owed to them.
"I will not," she said, matter-of-fact, "I refuse to continue playing the coward and leave you here alone. I care not what Mother thinks anymore." She had never forgotten about her sibling, the only person she knew she loved truly and dearly. Yet in the past whenever she had tried to visit, their Mother would always pull her string tight like that of a marionette and drag her away.
Now Grand Mother Silk was distracted by the spider. At first Lace had thought to kill her, and that was what motivated her to free the weaver from her cage. At first she had been determined to not be replaced...but why? Why continue striving for the love of someone who cared not? She and Phantom had only ever been a temporary replacement for her precious weavers.
So no. She'd let that spider fumble through her kingdom and either die at its cruel hands or be transformed by their Mother. She would stay down here with Phantom till they both withered away.
She made her way over to them now, wishing for nothing more than to hug them but feeling unworthy.
"I am staying here, Phantom. I will not leave you alone any longer."
