Reed reached the building that had been repurposed to house the ever-growing workforce behind the White Rabbit just as dusk was merging into darkness. It was no unusual for Reed to be here around about now, when everyone else had left for the night and still no Cilla had shown up at their little Woodland home. It had happened before, and Reed knew exactly where she would be - asleep at her desk with a pile of papers beneath her head and a now-cold cup of coffee close by.
“Oh, Cilla.” Reed smiled adoringly at the sleeping form of his girlfriend as he entered her office. “You are starting to get predictable, my love.” He said quietly, shrugging off his jacket and draping it around the wererabbit’s shoulders so she wouldn’t get cold once they made it outside before scooping her up in his arms with ease and kissing her forehead gently.
The merman had spent all afternoon preparing a surprise for Cilla; it was a very important date, after all. Their 4 year anniversary. Reed wasn’t really one for romantics, but admittedly with Cilla he made an exception. However, the fact that she was fast asleep changed plans a little and wondered if she would wake any time soon or if he was better to take her home to bed, and postpone the surprise until tomorrow night.
He would wait and see, he decided as he pushed open the door to her office and used his hand supporting her legs to lock it awkwardly before setting off on the way home. Should Cilla wake on the way back to their house he would ask her if she was up to what he had planned, but if she stayed asleep, or decided she wasn’t up to it, he could wait for the coming day. He could hardly blame Cilla for being so tired, she worked so hard it was a wonder she managed what she did.
