What a joy, Maddie thought as she glanced around the table at the small collection of people. Elle was wearing golden needle boppers that flashed every time she moved and someone had decided to decorate most surfaces with the party popper ribbons they were supposed to wait until midnight to let off. Glasses and bottles were clustered on the table and in the centre, a circle of cards surrounded a pint glass full of murky liquid. Being the infrequent drinker she was, Maddie didn’t even dare to think about what the others had been pouring into there. “Don’t think you can escape, Maddie.” Elle’s boyfriend jeered as she pushed herself up and Maddie swatted at him a straw.
“I’m going to go find Colbs.”
“I’m going to go find, Colbs.” Her other housemate mimicked with a knowing smirk as she reached out for one of the cards. Maddie rolled her eyes and left them laughing the living room. When she entered the kitchen, a small smile slipped across her mouth as she set her glass on the side.
“Ring of fire not your thing either?” She teased as she took a step closer to Colby. She couldn’t stop the way her heart began to beat faster. It had been pounding the entire drive since she’d seen Colby again. It had been practically frantic since they’d first kissed a few weeks ago. Almost boldly, she wrapped her arms around the other and smiled, pulling back her face enough so she couldn’t look into her eyes. “A whole new year, huh? Who knows what could happen...” @canthelps
