DATE: March 9th. PLACE: Hermosa Beach/Redondo Beach, California.
A soft, shaky sigh escaped Alex’s lips as the Uber makes a right on a street he is deeply familiar with, one hand holding onto a small bouquet of calla lilies (her favorite). Having Lara in the place he grew up in had turned out to be better than he initially anticipated. Between showing his girlfriend the house he grew up in (thankfully it had been remodel for the agent himself after college and Lara didn’t have to see the absolute wreck it had been so many years ago; the busted windows fixed, and the improvised lab his father had set in the garage had since been dismantled), seeing the sunset on the same beach he used to hang out in growing up and visiting the street art; it had been all bliss. However, there was something in the back of his mind, constantly bugging him, reminding him of the promise he had made to Lara and to himself on their first Valentines day together.
It served right that they’d chosen the beginnings of March for their first trip as a couple; they had been together officially for a month and the agent figured it was the perfect day for Lara to meet the one woman who had, in one way or another, shaped him into the man he was. Alas, why he found himself in the car, nervously playing with the hem of his shirt as his blue eyes focused on the road he had traveled on countless time in the past, except now he had the presence of Lara to calm him down. Chewing his inner cheek, Alexander took his girlfriend’s hand on his, feeling himself getting more nervous as he noticed a too-familiar building, a sign that they were close to their destination. “See that hardware store? I started working there when I was sixteen up until I moved to New York after high school. Everyday I’d go to school, walk to the store, go visit the person you’re about to meet, go to the beach and then go back home. I was lame, why are you dating me again?” he questioned with a chuckle before looking at the blonde, his thumb gracing the back of her hand idly “If at any point you wanna leave or anything just... let me know, alright? It’ll be fine, we’re not gonna do anything that you don’t wanna do or feel comfortable in. I just figured today from all days would be the perfect day to do this.”
