After the emotional roller coaster of the last 48 hours, Finn couldn’t keep himself to his room any longer. It was only 6 in the morning, but he hadn’t slept a wink. He had to do something. He pulled on a t-shirt and track pants and grabbed his ID badge. He swiped out of the building and to the field just beyond the outdoor area the patients were allowed in. Finn ran for what felt like an hour, the cold January air leaving his skin red and numb. His whole consciousness was sunk beneath an ocean of thoughts. Thoughts of Jordyn, of Casey, of how much better their lives probably would’ve been without him in them. He only brought pain in the end. Maybe he could still save Casey from that somehow. He didn’t want to hurt the psychiatrist the way he’d hurt Jordyn. Hurt seemed inevitable around him.
Finn ran as if he could escape that thought, as if it would just break off from his being and he would leave it there in the snow to wither. This fruitless task resulted in him wearing himself out physically and emotionally by the end of his run. All the better. It was seven now and he’d have to supervise breakfast soon. Maybe he would be able to lean into his exhaustion, take his meds, and stay as numb as his fingers were in the January frost. The brunette pulled his shirt off and wiped the sweat from his forehead as he walked back towards the unit. Entering the patient area Finn saw a familiar petite brunette. “Hey,” he smiled, throwing the shirt over his shoulder. The cold didn’t make him shiver. Growing up in New York he’d grown to love it. Sure it was cold as fuck, but the air bit at his skin in a refreshing way. “Busted, I guess.” He laughed as he got closer and sat on one of the tables. “The run wasn’t too strenuous though, I swear. And the meds have been really helpful.” He looked her up and down and cocked his head a little. “What’re you doing out here before work anyway?”
