Location: Bright Moon Daycare
When it came to short days like this, Alec often dropped off Cyrus at the day care. The doctor liked days like this because it meant that he was not working late and could actually spend the whole evening with his son and read to him in person. "Hey, how is it going? I hope your day has not been too stressful," he smiled softly.

Stan sat down on a nearby fallen log as the four of them stopped in front of an entrance to cave.
“Is that it?” Mabel asked.
“Yes, it is.” Ford started. “An entrance to a parallel realm.”
Stan snorted, earning a brief look and non-discrete jab from Ford’s elbow.
Dipper looked at the relatively dull cave entrance. “Wow... wait,” he turned to look back at Ford, “how’d you know it goes to a parallel realm.”
“Oh, well I went through it and it led me right back out here again. Although everything looked slightly different, and after a little bit of time I began to notice some key differences.”
“Was it really spooky?” Mabel questioned hopefully.
He hummed. “I suppose. The colors are a bit more saturated, and there’s an odd tendency for some objects to have the consistency of jello.” Ford continued.
“What’s truly interesting though are the creatures that inhibit that realm! They can affect our realm here in varying degrees despite being unable to directly interact with it! It’s my belief that they’re the cause for some of the unexplained phenomena around here that cannot be attributed to typical spirits.”
Ford barely heard Mabel murmur something over to Dipper about an ‘downside up’ or similar, but pressed on explaining. “I’m not sure what their motives are or if they are even aware their realm acts alongside ours. As well, I wonder if our actions affect their world in the same manner that their actions affect our world.”
“Of course, with the identical landscapes I have to assume that our construction informs the environment of their realm. In which case then, maybe there’s no creatures on that side that are intelligent enough to create their own structures. An alternate idea is that they have their own constructions, but those do not transfer over to our world which would imply that our two worlds have an unequal level of effect on one another. Actually, that’s an inaccurate way to say that, no.” He stopped, thinking it through.
“Different methods of interaction that at this stage we don’t have enough information on to accurately summarize beyond rudimentary theories. Similar to trying to make generalized statements about the ocean when you’ve only waded through the shore on one occasion.”
Ford finally paused then, realizing something. “Stanley...”
“Uh-huh.” Stan didn’t look over at him, lounging as comfortable as he could get on the log now.
“Where are the kids?”
“I’ll tell you but you’re not gonna like it.”
“They’re in the cave.” Ford noted flatly.
“They’re in the cave.” Stan confirmed with a smile edging up on his face.
Mabel and Dipper were hurriedly following along after their grunkle as he purposefully went through the house for...- what, they honestly didn’t know.
“I-It really isn’t- uhm.” Dipper faltered, clenching his hands into fists then un-clenching them again uncertainly, as he tried moving ahead of Stan to get a look at his face. “We really didn’t get into as much trouble as it sounds we did.”
“We were just telling a story!” Mabel piped up, putting on a big smile as she hugged Dipper to her side. “Just good ol’ sibling story time. When we were talking about almost dying we didn’t REALLY mean that.”
“Nothing, but us being completely safe and taking care of ourselves.”
He was completely undeterred, face set into a hard frown. “Kids. I heard enough, this ends now.”
The twins gave each other a worried look then looked back at Stan, nearly talking over each other as they pleaded.
“Please, don’t send us back home yet, Grunkle Stan!” Mabel said, pulling on Stan’s coat, making him stop. “I haven’t had enough sleepovers with Candy and Grenda yet!”
“And I haven’t figured anything out yet! I’ve got all these questions-!”
“Kids-?” Stan tried.
“I could still have a big summer romance! Dipper could find a werewolf! These are childhood dreams, Grunkle Stan! Dreams!!”
“Please, Grunkle Stan, we won’t cause any trouble!! Promise! Mostly!”
“We won’t get caught for anything!”
Stan put his hands out. “Hey! Hey, calm down there, both of you.” He urged them. “What’s this ‘sending you back home’ nonsense?” He asked, getting down on a knee to talk with them.
Mabel pulled at her hair. “So... you’re not sending us home because we’re too much trouble?”
“Ha? You kidding me?” He smiled. “No. No, I’m not sending you two back home any sooner than I gotta.” He paused for a second, soon adding on as he shrugged. “Need someone to sweep the shop when Soos is busy. Never turn down free labor!”
“Uh, what’d you mean by ‘this is ending now’ then?” Dipper asked him.
Stan stood back up again, headed towards the living room. “Well, I'm not having some ah... goobledy-gook masked teenager go around scaring the sweeping energy out of you two.”
“Pretty sure a teenager can’t be ten feet tall.” Dipper pointed out.
“Meh, growth spurts.” Stan said dismissively, reaching under the arm chair.
“I don’t know if you can really... ‘talk to’ this ‘teenager.’” Mabel told him using liberal quotation marks on the word ‘teenager.’
Stan pulled out a wooden bat, and cleared his throat. “Uh, yeah. Talk to ‘em.” He got back up again. “Yup. That’s what I’m going to do.”
“With a bat?”
He glanced around briefly. “... Yes.”
“Uh... Grunkle Stan-?” Mabel tried, pushing her fingers together. “Maybe you shouldn’t try to find the ‘teenager’ to talk with them because maybe... maybe it’s a super buff teenager! And you’re really old! And he...” she struggled for more reasons, “listens to really bad music?”
“All teenagers listen to really bad music, sweetie.” Stan walked back towards the back door, stopping with hand on the handle to turn back to them. “Now I meant it, you two.” He said pointing at them. “The both of you stay here until I get back. Got it?”
They mumbled back in response.
“Yeah.”
“Got it...”
“Good.” He glanced around as he went through the door with the bat, shutting it after himself. “And uh... dust the kitchen or sweep some cobwebs or something while I’m gone.”
The pair waited a few seconds at the door until he was far enough away.
“Baseball? Grunkle Stan really doesn’t get teenagers...”
“Mabel, we got to get to it before he does!”
She nodded her head. “Mission: Save Grunkle Stan.” Cracking open the door, she peeked around it to check before fully opening it. “Come on!”
Dipper had been working on his homework, and subsequently gotten distracted by something more interesting. He’d found a book downstairs, in the shop, about old Earth myths, and was taking notes on that instead, in his actual notebook. Old Earth had some pretty cool stories, as it turned out. If they were stories.
He had almost finished a sketch of something called a Jersey Devil, whatever Jersey was, when he heard foot steps. And they were too excited to be anyone else.
“No,” he said without moving, proud that he hadn’t jumped when Mabel had slammed the door open.
“Viva Los Vegas! VIva Los Vegas! Viva, viva LOS VEGAS!” Mabel sang and giggled, leaning back into her seat Mabel grinned looking around. Mabel hopped onto her seat and rested her chin on the back of it. Peering at the person sitting behind her she grinned, “are you excited for this! I haven’t bacin American since Christmas, I wonder what has changed?” Mabel pretended to stroke her chin before breaking into more laugher.
