“Quite the look,” Surya said, genuine and impressed as she watched Five’s tributes go by. “You deserve an award just for getting two 21-year-old men to wear matching socks.”

While most encounters already at this ball were leaving him either embarrassed or annoyed, there were some faces he saw that immediately made him feel ashamed. He couldn’t really remember his last encounter with Selene, but he knew, for whatever reason, he’d come away angry. Hindsight told him he had no right to feel that way. “A-Are you here with Sir-rena?”

“I hate these outfits for the tributes. What do you think of them? Have I missed a trend that would ever make them stylish?”

The melodic bell on the door gave his entrance away as he closed it behind him, as gently as possible. A heavy perfumed scent hung in the air; a wonderful mix of all the colorful blooms. She was here amongst them somewhere: he could feel her energy or so he thought. Eyes scanning the shop he headed towards the back room, his steel toe boots creating an audible heavy step as he called out, “Selene...” not wanting to startle her in any way. It had been months since he’d made this far north, and he’d been feeling a pull for weeks to see her again. “It’s your most problematic and favorite...friend.” He almost said hunter, but who’s to say she was by herself.
Chip was never much of a fan of the chariots. Not as a spectator, a tribute, a mentor, or a Gamemaker. It felt ridiculous to him, as if there was really a meter of what was “ridiculous” when it came to the Games. He usually hung back, watching the parade play out with crossed arms. “Th-The sand’s slowing things down,” he muttered when he noticed another shadow nearby. Normally he wouldn’t make much comment, but the heat was making him crankier than normal.

“H-Hey, Selene,” he said to try to catch the stylist’s attention as he leaned on the bar. “I-I normally, uh, I r-really don’t care about th-this, but um.” He looked down at the jeans he’d been dressed in. “Is thi-ths too casual?”
Chip paused in front of a television in the ballroom, watching closely as the cameras settled on Nvidia. Fog was quickly filling the arena, and even he didn’t know what it would bring. “Sh-She’s fucking smart,” he muttered when he noticed another presence. “DD-istrict Thr-Three could use her.”

Chip should’ve approached the topic more subtly and delicately, considering the girls’ fiancee had two sisters in the arena. But still, he asked, “Wh-When th-the fuck do I get the wedding invite?” He suddenly realized he might’ve gotten one, and didn’t recall in the moment. Or worse, he hadn’t been invited at all.
