Chardonnay had woken up to the news as soon as the television in her bedroom beeped a few times - the signal to notify the viewer that an important message from the Capitol was about to be air - and was shocked with what little grief she had left in her numb body.
Death seemed so daily now in Panem, especially the Capitol, that every tragic headline of yet another person murdered was nothing but a mere passing, “ehh,” just before changing the channel or turning off the television and getting on with her day.
But this time? This time it was different. Chardonnay had actually liked Julia and was sad to see her go in such a way.
After having breakfast in her bed and puffing out several different flavored cigarettes, she finally managed to get dressed and go downstairs. It was then that she quickly headed down to the lobby and headed over to the bar and ordered a scotch on the rocks; she needed something to the kill the ache of sadness in her gut.
She then noticed Surya standing in front of a large television screen that was mounted on the wall in the seating area.
Chardonnay came up beside her and spoke as she too stared into what was the most shocking news in a while, “Isn’t it surreal? She was so sweet. I mean, yea she was puppet who did anything for applause...but she was one of the good ones. She was one of us.”
