PROJECT: VANGUARD
Evie had to grow a small plant for one of her last school assignments. It’d given her and Paslee quite the interest in becoming green thumbs, so Chip ordered about a dozen indoor and outdoor plants, gardening tools, anything that seemed appropriate. They’d just come in on a train from the Capitol, and now he was looking at a pile of things on his front walkway that he had no idea what to do with. “Uh... I th-think I messed up,” he said when he looked up and saw someone else in the village.

Surya flicked out her napkin and smoothed it into her lap, looking curiously over the edge of her seat at the ground that was far away. “I certainly hope no one is afraid of heights.”

Chip was about to take a sip of the drink he’d been handed when he caught a whiff of something much stronger than the mix of juices he was expecting. He paused, tempted to take the sip and blame everything that came next on the bartender making a mistake. “Uh, I-I th-think this is yours,” he said finally, handing the drink over with a shaky hand to the stylist at the bar.
