Location: A liquor store in The Gutters
Kaz was a stranger to The Gutters. There was little there to hold her interest, in all honesty. The people there had barely enough to keep themselves alive. There was nothing to take from them, nothing her magpie-eyes coveted for her own. All they had was their own misery, and as far as she was concerned, they could keep it.
Still, there was one things The Gutters had in spades. The moonshine was fucking excellent. It hit the spot in a different way that the alcohol up where the normal people lived did, and whenever she was passing through the underbelly of the city, Kaz made a point of stopping to pick some up.
On a week like this, a drink was sorely needed. She wasn’t the type of person who needed her vices - okay, she stole and lied and cheated, but that all came as naturally to her as breathing. She didn’t need drugs or smoking or alcohol to cope, though it definitely helped in her pursuit of a good time. However, being around the Madhouse Renegades brought out a different side to Kaz. They expected too much, more than she was willing to give, and the fine line she danced on trying not to give it to them exhausted her.
Kaz pushed her way into the liquor store, making a beeline for the shelf containing her personal favourite. It was no rare vintage, but in a way, this was better. She unscrewed the cap and took a swig there and then. Champagne didn’t burn like this on the way down.Vodka cocktails weren’t as satisfying. As she lowered the bottle, screwing the cap back on, her eyes caught Luca’s. She knew him vaguely - he was adjacent to the Madhouse Renegades, if not a member himself, but she hadn’t spent enough time with him yet to fully figure him out. “I’m gonna pay for it,” she pointed out, feeling almost guilty for taking shots in the aisles. “I just really, really, needed a drink.”
