“Yes. Fine.” She herself has been here a week. In the near constant dark of a place far beyond the badlands. Where not even the moonlight reached. Landing had been difficult given the harsh branches that wove together up above. She’d eventually had to just break through them and hope the sound hadn’t alerted anything. Which of course, knowing her luck, it had. The fight was quick, a short blast to the chest and she’d taken off running. The spell that had been surrounding her, and now Rainbow, was multilayered. It needed to hide their scent, their innate magic, their voices, everything. The blue glow around them both was the only thing giving off any decent amount of light to see by.
It wasn’t like she hadn’t used magic like this before. For long extended periods of time without break. She did it on a nightly basis. But for this long, with this complex of a smell, was something else. Not that she would ever admit that to her companion. And she still had to raise and lower the moon, having refused to let her sister do it in her absence. Her coat was now permanently blanketed by a thin layer of sweat despite the magic bubble letting the wind blow right through it. She keeps walking, eyes and ears always moving. Her mane and tail had slowed their waving to half the normal speed. Full loss of magic was something she’d only experienced once or twice in her lifetime. And it was terrifying, something she never wanted to have happen again. Pacing herself is the only real option here. Which would be difficult considering the lack of resources. She’d already had to conjure water and food in an attempt to preserve the supplies she’d brought with her. The bag kept growing heavier on her back.
In all honesty, she doesn’t even know what they’re here for. So far from home. Celestia had given her a brief rundown of the artifact they hoped to find. What it did-they weren’t entirely sure. A concerning thought for a later date. Their focus right now was to survive. She could hear what lurked in the woods. Things with teeth likely drawn to brightly colored mares like Rainbow. They needed to stay undetected in order to complete the mission. She’d already had a few cases of large beasts coming right up to the barrier, sniffing like maybe part of the spell was failing. She’d cheated then, drawn thunder and lightning to force it to seek cover elsewhere. “Fine...how’re you holding up?”
