@wreathcrowns asked: " I have no quarrel with you … " Diomedes (Odysseus' bestie ,,, ) to Poseidon. " Do I … ? " still humble enough to take care before an Olympian. Diomedes just wants to make it back to a human settlement safely, while carrying a festering wound in the middle of the forest. (hello i hope this is okay?)
he knows who this man is. he is well aware of those who were acquainted with the ~ infamous ~ odysseus. but to come across one of them all the way out here, far from the ocean - it is unexpected. to say the least. nonetheless when considering the wound the man is so obviously clutching. he considers the mortal. blood and all. "what happened to you?" the words twist as he projects them, stepping closer - but not making a move. as much as the hatred of odysseus lingers, so does a certain amount of respect. and odysseus cares for this man. "quite the distance from home, aren't you?"

As much as Poseidon had fun walking among the mortals, and getting involved with their affairs' (and perhaps meddling where he shouldn’t at times) he knew his duty. His duty was to the sea, to his domain and all those that called the sea home. He had been gone perhaps slightly too long this time, and Amphitrite was not happy. While she was reliable to take care of matters in his stead, she always gave him an earful when he was gone too long.
To escape this he had gone out on a patrol with a handful of Hippocampi and a few Naiads. Nothing too unusual, the occasional cruise ship full of partying mortals, some fishermen returning from a long day, but mostly quiet. That was until one of his hippocampi came rushing back reporting a ship full of mortals that were fighting. Heading off in the direction he sensed a familiar mortal presence that made him speed up until the ship, which he now recognized as a yacht was only a few miles away. That was when he heard the gunshot that made him close the distance and board the vessel.
@witchoflegends asked: "Um, hi. I guess. I don't really know what to say in this situation." (Tyson to Poseidon)
he has many children. percy is the one that is destined for so many great things, but that doesn't mean his other children are anything less. in fact, tyson? he likes tyson. he sees so much of his other children in him. the introduction leaves poseidon smiling; because it's always awkward from their point of view. "hello, tyson." and his greeting is warm, welcoming.
Poseidon, The Earthshaker; God of the Sea, Earthquakes, Storms, and Horses
Poseidon spent much of his early existence in darkness.
He was the second to last of Kronos' children to be devoured, swallowed after Demeter and before Hera, and the years within their father's stormach left scars that never fully faded. Hestia and Hades did what they could to shield the younger gods from the worst of the acid, but it was never enough. Poseidon bears the mark of that time most visibly on his left foot, burned when Hera slipped and he moved instinctively to catch her, taking the damage meant for her instead. It was a small moment in the grand scope of their time imprisoned inside him, but it left a constant reminder of his time that Demeter, Hera and Zeus would never understand because they did not have to bear it the way that he, Hestia and Hades did.
When the Titan War ended and the world was divided, Poseidon claimed the sea. The ocean offered distance when Olympus became too loud, too crowded with memories of his childhood spend locked inside of a hostile prison. Still, he made it clear to his siblings that his domain would never be closed to them. The sea could be isolating and he welcomes that when he needed it, but it would never be unwelcoming so long as they came with pure intentions.
It was after Zeus named Metis his queen that Poseidon sought an oracle, asking who should rule beside him. He did not want a conquest or a prize, he did not even want love though he would say not to it. He wanted a partner who understood the ocean as more than territory. He should not have been surprised when he was told that the eldest daughter of his predecessor as ruler of the ocean, Oceanus and Tethys, was his best option. Amphitrite made it very clear that she did not want to be his wife. So Poseidon did the only thing he could think to do. He offered her an arrangement.
Their marriage would be one of convenience and mutual respect. She would be Queen of the Sea in her own right, never overshadowed or claimed, and their union would be open, free of possession or expectation. They would share a realm, but she did not need to give him her hear. Poseidon swore to this on The River Styx, binding the promise into their wedding. Their rule has endured not because of passion, but because of honesty and mutual respect.
Of all his relationships, it was Sally Jackson whom Poseidon loved most deeply.
He met her without knowing who she was, drawn to her kindness, her strength, and the muted wisdom she carried even stripped of divinity. What they shared was gentle and unguarded, something neither of them had been searching for but both needed desperately. When Poseidon learned the truth when Percy was older? Of who she had been, what she had fled, and the prophecy that still shadowed her? Fear took hold. Not for himself, but for her and for their son.
Percy's existence was dangerous in ways Poseidon could not ignore, it was more than him potentially being the one to fulfill the great prophecy. Zeus would never see the boy as innocent; he would see leverage, defiance, or fate made real. So Poseidon went to the Fates, swore them to silence and then he began planning with Amphitrite something that might keep Percy alive.
Amphitrite was the only one he trusted with the full truth. She saw his heartbreak when he left Sally behind, understood the weight of that choice, and helped him carry it even when she herself felt betrayed by it. Leaving Sally was the hardest thing Poseidon had ever done, and he never truly recovered from it. And when he came to her and told her who Sally truly was after finding out in his quest to find her sister? She was more than willing to help make sure that Sally and Percy stayed safe.
When Percy nearly died in the Underworld years later, Poseidon knew that was his best chance. He left their army in Amphitrites command and went to the underworld, revealing the truth to Hades. He asked him to unfreeze Sally so that he could explain, and then he told Hades who Sally truly was at same time he revealed to her that he was the truth.
Hades, understanding all too well what a god would do to protect their child given when Bianca and Nico currently were, agreed to help stage Percy's death rather than force Poseidon into something that would cause as far worse conflict than the one they were on the verge of. Nyx appeared soon after when Sally prayed to her asking her to come, claiming responsibility for hiding the boy if the truth ever came out. Oaths were sworn on the Styx that could not be broken, and Percy was taken to Atlantis under the lie that a demi-god child of Amphitrite was going to be living in the castle.
When Percy returned under another name, older and changed enough to pass unnoticed, Poseidon watched from a distance, resisting every instinct to interfere. And when the truth finally came out during the Battle of Manhattan, Poseidon stood ready to defend him if it came to that and so did Amphitrite.
He is not a perfect god. He's prone to storms of emotion and anger. But unlike Zeus, Poseidon does not fear prophecy so much as he resents it. He does not want to outmaneuver fate for power. He only to protect those he loves, even if it costs him everything else. That's what defines him. Not the sea, not the storms, not the earth shaking.
@voiidliing asked: “ It’s all true. all the awful things they said about me they’re all true…” ( For Poseidon, Lupin being really angst. )
"you know who you're talking to, don't you?" the man whose kill-count was in the stratosphere. poseidon is a god. what he has done? he cannot blame zeus for all of it. nor the enjoyment he had gotten out of it, at various points in his history. he had been far more himself with lupin than he had been with anyone else. which makes him wonder how lupin could ever think that a confession like this could really phase him. "but i see that you want to talk. so talk. no judgement, guaranteed. not a lotta people can say that they've ever had that privilege from a god. so spill. what's going on with you?"
