It was just another day, having yet another cup of coffee in the same cafe as always, frequent costumers would even leave the table he preferred empty for him to occupy it whenever he arrived, he attributed it to his intimidating looks, but whatever the reason, he was actually grateful. His chin was resting comfortably over the palm of his hand while his elbow remained propped on the surface, the other hand lazily stirring the remains of his now warm coffee in the cup while his gaze was fixed on the void outside the window, the blurs that the people walking pass became catching his attention from time to time. It took him a moment too long to recognize certain face that reflected on the window, his eyebrows furrowed as he perked up, gaze completely focused on the woman’s face until it finally sank in his mind who she was.
Slowly, he turned his head to look at the inside of the café, where the female was eagerly chatting with whom he thought were her school friends near the front counter. There were mixed feelings swirling on his stomach, it had being more than a year since the last time he had seen her, he feared she might even hate him for the way he disappeared without saying a word, but perhaps this was a second chance, one he knew he couldn’t waste. Luck seemed to be on his side when he noticed her companions walking ahead while she stayed in front of the counter, exchanging words with the employee behind it, so he got up on his feet, still feeling that uncomfortable swirl on his stomach as he walked the distance between them in a few steps, a hand hesitantly reaching for her shoulder, where pale slim fingers tapped at a few times in an attempt of getting her attention “Sweets..?” He called for her rather shyly, in case there was the chance that he had mistook her for someone else, even if he knew he hadn’t “Melanie, is it... Really you?”
