Little peep at an au I’ve been playing around with before I have to go to work

Started off as a what if Sunset didn’t finish her villain arc and was still Celestia’s student when Twilight came along and continued to spiral from there

Trying to push my brain into thinking of procreate as a sketchbook so I can just slap things down and not get caught up in perfecting every detail or thinking that I need to make everything super polished- just draw till you’re tired of it and boom!

Felt like drawing c-class au Twi and did a little doodle of Spike too since I don’t draw him enough.

Opening up the new year with my beloved horse <3<3

I have a lot of things that I want to do this year, but one of those is definitely trying to find a consistent rendering style. This thing took my just shy of eight hours almost solely because I couldn’t decide if I wanted to paint on top of my sketch or do line art. I want to get faster at art and one of those things involves becoming consistent with my process.

Just remembered that I never posted this page I made up for Twilight’s design after I shared that wip of her and Sunset-

I see C-Class Twilight as being a lot more closed off and heavily involved with her studies than she was in canon. She feels a lot more pressure to prove herself to Celestia as a student with Sunset and Sunburst in the picture (yeah Sunburst is also here because I have ideas about him but that’s for later-) and Twilight and Sunset have a very notable rivalry at the start of this story.

She’s constantly tired from studying and practicing her spells, she isolates herself from other ponies to free herself from distraction, and is generally a bit more snippy and snarky in a way that I see developing as a defense from Sunset’s bullying and ego. But when Celestia sends her away for the Summer Sun Celebration (cue the nightmare moon stuff and her choosing to stay in Ponyville yada yada), she finds herself thriving in Ponyville with her new friends and the more excitable, nerdy, and caring parts of her personality are allowed to flourish.

I’ve really like using this au to explore Celestia’s school as both a setting and plot device- so with Twi specifically, her being a student and her school life in Canterlot is something I’m shifting more a focus on within her character arc. Her arc in amending fences happens a lot earlier, for example, and I have an idea I really like to lead into the season three finale with the whole magical mystery cure episode!
