a very strange encounter. that was most likely what described augustus’ early morning breakfast with an unnamed girl with high cheekbones and bright eyes. yet he did not find himself disliking it-- or her. he was, above all else, curious. curious of who she was, and what caused her abrupt departure, to begin. the king awoke much later in the day and dressed for an afternoon outdoors; if he saw the young lady, he would invite her to join him. if not-- he still planned to take a ride on the grounds. augustus strode down the main stairwell, bidding good afternoon to those he knew as he journeyed through the castle with an amiable smile and wave, searching for the girl’s face. no luck. instead, the scribe of a fellow royal approached him, bearing papers for his signature affirming a meeting the following monday. the scribe addressed augustus with a half-bow before beginning his speech. “for your hand, your royal highness. my lord would be honored if an honorable king such as yourself would consider a discussion on trade routes between sweden and--” there. augustus noticed the girl only a few feet away, and made eye contact, offering a polite nod, hoping she would wait a few moments for him to deal with the matter at hand. he quickly signed the papers and thanked the scribe before walking in the young woman’s direction. “well, i’m pleased i have found you this morning. i wasn’t sure for how long you’d sleep after a late night-- i hope it’s been a good one,” he said, praying she did not mind him coming forward to speak to her. “i’m going out to the grounds; does the acceptance of my offer still stand? i’d enjoy some company.” @irisodoemene
