The live music was a nice break from walking around the carnival, listening to the chorus of screaming children throwing tantrums at booths when they didn’t win, the grating sound of the carnival rides music, haunting bells and chimes she associated with horror movies that Crista would watch with her when she was a toddler. She could still faintly hear it, but it was mostly drowned out by the band on stage. They were hyping up the crowd, encouraging them to dance and jump, Dahlia going along with it until she’d stumbled into a familiar blonde, Mad Hatter grin on her lips when she slid an arm around the other’s shoulder. “Leah!” She laughed, more affectionate than she would ever be sober, pulling the other into her side. “Where have you been all night? Are you here with someone?”
