Family
It’s a good thing Regulus has never watched a TV-Family nor has he spent much time with any family that might constitute as “normal” by anyone outside PureBlood Circles. Even still, Regulus understands that families love each other and generally care for each other.
And that is why, at the heart of things, Regulus truly believes if he were a better son, his parents would be better. He even believed, for a time, that if he had been able to be better, Sirius might have stayed (although this has evaporated, the thought is a well worn path in his head and he’s liable to fall back into it for other things)
These thoughts were what helped him move forward after so much family upheaval. He could sit up straighter, he could find a way to almost make eye contact--which was enough, he could enunciate better, learn finances... Of course it has never been enough but Regulus is still trying.
After all, if his family didn’t love him, they wouldn’t push him to be better (although push is a generally light term). Of course, many of the things being asked of him are against his personality or nature--but one day, maybe, he’ll be able to do those, too.
He tries less around Narcissa ( @missmvlfoy ) and her husband ( @purestpeacock ) because, simply, they haven’t demanded it of him and Lucius hasn’t ostracized him for protesting the various things Regulus refuses to do. Bellatrix ( @lestrangebtrix ) is something different all together--and Regulus wanted to imitate her throughout his late teens but now it is more of show, an attempt, and much like what he does with his parents.
Regulus stays where he is, putting a lot of effort into learning how to be the head of house, because he loves his family and, at the same time, he has comparatively fewer people outside of it.
Sirius ( @siriuscrionblack ) and Andromeda ( @ofandrcmedas ) are both complicated topics. While Regulus might begrudgingly admit that he still loves them, trust has been largely broken and he can’t imagine a time when he’d give them something important to do involving him or someone else he cared about. When he says, ‘I’d trust you to slit might throat’ he might mean, ‘You’ll hurt me again if I trust you even a little’
“I’m far too old for this.”
“ do you love me ?” (for Walburga)
“You have to ask?” Walburga took another sip of her drink. Honestly she carried him around for nine whole months after actively trying to have him and yet here he was questioning whether or not she loved him. Sure he came remarkably soon after Sirius given how long they had been trying before their first child was born but that didn’t lessen her attachment to him.
I’ve been planning a Ravnica campaign, so have a break down of which guilds my muses fall into.
The Orzhov Syndicate is actually home to most Blacks as while they aren’t really religious people or actually particularly interested in banking they are a group of people who are absolutely okay with doing less than legal things for the sake of their own power and wealth. Orion, Walburga, Cygnus, and Narcissa are all in some way shape or form a member of this guild. Regulus is technically also a member but his true guild is House Dimir.
The Cult of Rakdos has only one member of the Black family, Bellatrix. Who joined because quite honestly she enjoys it far more than she would any other guild.
The Azorius Senate is home to Lucretia and Alphard, with both of them performing drastically different jobs within the guild.
Sirius was without a guild for awhile but he eventually joined the Boros Legion
Cedrella and Andromeda both found their way to the Selesnya Conclave.

“Sirius Orion Black,” she spoke his name as a warning, her voice not yet high enough to count as shouting but very close to it. “You were taught better than this, or has the time you’ve spent with those blood traitors removed all the knowledge of how to behaved that was drilled into your head?”
Houses of the Riddle Era Blacks
Orion & Walburga: These two live in the house that the heads of their family have lived in for a very long time, it isn’t a lavish manor like most would expect from a family such as theirs but rather a dark home in the midst of a muggle city. It wasn’t designed to show off their wealth but rather to keep their family safe from attacks. Muggles used to attack people who were suspected of using magic and the best place to hide was in plain sight, the house is also heavily warded so they would be safe from any type of attack either from Muggles or other magic users.
Alphard: Alphard should have inherited the home he and his siblings grew up in but instead he took a cottage that they had as he had no plans to have a family of his own and didn’t need the house.
Cygnus: Cygnus and his wife live in the actual manor of the Black family, it is not as safe as his sister’s home but it has all the extravagance one would think their family home should have. This is where any and all parties thrown by the Black family are hosted no matter which member of the family is throwing it.
