IS EDUCATION OUR PRIORITY?
We all have set of priority in life. It differs from human to human; Getting a job, earning more and more, making your family happy, making yourself happy, and what not. But what is there at the core of all these things? It’s “Education”.
Before you go ahead, stop here and ask yourself this question. If yes, then you are fortunate enough. And if the answer is no, then nobody is more unfortunate than you. It’s harsh but true.Let’s talk about the positive one first: You might have been told about the importance of education in one’s life.
They can be your parents, teachers, siblings or friends who have taught you this. And yes, they are absolutely right. In fact, education is the hero of our lives.Your parents pay a huge amount of money to educate you. They always pray for your glorious future. They want you to live a happier life. Respect to those parents who encourage their kids to study hard. They never stop them. Wait, what did I just say, ‘They never stop them?’ I wonder if any parents could stop their kids to study! But yes, such things happen. To discuss it more in detail, let me share an incident with you.
Two years ago, I was a lecturer. And as a lecturer, you always want your students to perform well. There was a very bright girl in one of the batches. Her performance had been constantly improving. I always thought that she would have a very bright future as she was already so hard working. Once I asked the entire class what they would want to do in future; what to study further? I got multiple choices. Some said MBA, some said MCA.
But when I asked this girl, she said that she would not study further. It was shocking to hear that. I couldn’t help myself from asking the reason.
She replied,
“My father won’t allow me to study further. Neither would I do any job. In a year or two, my parents would get me married. I am studying till the Bachelors just to get an Ideal life partner.”
Did her parents educate her just to get a suitable partner but not for herself? Why?
Such examples are very common.
But it is unfair too. Change is needed.
Many NGOs and organizations are there who work to spread awareness of the education. Sometimes financial limitations also restrict the growth. In such cases, NGOs and organizations provide financial help to such families. So there is a hope that change will happen. But what about the mindset? In the families where there is no financial problem, but still, they believe that girls have nothing to do with higher studies.
All they will have to do is cooking and managing the house. We really want a change in such typical mindset. When will the parents understand that educating their kids will make them more efficient, confident and better human beings? When will they understand that Education is the Hero? When will they start giving education the priority?
