valerii had only caught glimpses of ember the past week and each one had been of increasing concern. she didn't exactly expect ember to take her father's death well but there had to be a line between grief and poison. ember, who was usually hanging on the arms of her many many friends, seemed to have withdrawn into herself.

maybe those friends were too nice to pull ember out of her drunken haze and back into reality but valerii believed in tough love.

with sada's new regulations on the building valerii had been given a master set of keys that allowed her access to anywhere she may need to be. in this case, ember's place. she entered the living room quietly to find ember lounged on the couch in a semi-conscious state. her lips pursed. she wasn't good with this stuff.

"you need a shower." the prospect of an ice bath had probably put ember off from doing that as much as the energy needed for her to move from the couch to the bathroom.

valerii kneeled in front of ember. "let's go to mine. i'll wash your hair for you."

lane had known who was standing outside of the quarantine suite from the rhythmic knocking alone. the metallic jingling of bracelets only further confirmed the identity of who was waiting for them on the other side of the heavy door.

they wrung their hands together nervously as they contemplated opening the door or simply ignoring it—but when ember’s voice spoke their name lane’s heart tugged them towards a decision. she opened the door slowly and looked at the familiar face with a tired smile. “no hugs, miss wexley.” lane reminded her knowing that she was already breaking protocol by opening the door.

“i think we can get away with a few minutes of chatting though.” she didn’t want to send ember away. lane had been surprised at the comfort seeing her had brought. “maybe just step back a few feet your side and i’ll do the same, yeah?”

lane kept the door open and did as she suggested, stepping back until she felt the wall of the suites entryway against their back. lane slid to the floor and sat criss cross applesauce.

“kind of feels like coming back from the dead.” lane admitted, about being back after so long. after a minute their face contorted to mock upset and they cocked their head, “you better not have tossed my stuff or i’ll be right annoyed.”

Hunger. Normally Dom never felt it. His entire life was on a schedule, including drinking blood. It was a chore he had to do to keep working. He'd restrained himself from treating it like anything but that for his own good. He needed to be in control and that was part of it. If that meant his life was a little less exciting than most vampires, so be it. He let himself be wild enough.

But the stress and added work of the assassinations had thrown him so off-schedule, he hadn't even realized how bad it had gotten. He wanted blood, and he wanted it from the source. The scent of it had led him by the nose and he'd stalked it, not even thinking about who the blood belonged to or why they were bleeding or how bad it would be to attack someone with no warning. He just wanted.

He knew who it was from the scent, Ember. Soft and pliable. Prey. The other man was standing near a tree out in the village, and Dom didn't care why. He appeared like a shadow and grabbed Ember from behind, dragging him close and pressing him against the trunk of the tree. "Mine." His fangs dug into Ember's neck, the phoenix pinned off his feet with Dom grinding against him, the blood coating his mouth tasting like sex and chocolate. It was fire in his veins and he wanted more. Throwing Ember over his shoulder, Dom stalked into the woods, stopping in the place he went when he let himself change during the full moon. It was a small copse of trees, the branches blocking out the sun and the trunks close together. Throwing Ember onto the ground, Dom was on him in less than a breath (and he didn't take one), not letting a drop of the other man's blood spill. He wanted all of it. He pinned Ember's wrists above the other man's head with one hand and kept his hips in place with the other, wanting the phoenix to know he was prey and had been caught. The phoenix was so warm, and Dom stripped off his shirt, wanting to feel more of the warmth, biting the other side of the man's neck and snarling with feral desire.

So I may have impulse bought 3 XYX G1s lol. The first two (Azure/Stonewash/Azure and Sunshine/Red/Sunshine) were only 500g, and the 3rd (Peach/Brick/Peach) was 1000g. The first two were already gened too. I’m glad I like peregrine on the azure boy, will make geneing him a little cheaper.

It’s kind of amazing how you can find really cute doubles at such cheap prices.

“Oh god, have you heard enough? I’ve heard enough,” Grace groaned, taking Ember’s arm so they could both walk away from the two guys who wouldn’t leave them alone by the bar. “If I wasn’t gay before,” they teased and knocked back the rest of their drink before flagging down someone to get them another one. The kids were in the city with their grandparents so the house was empty and they felt like a teenager on spring break. So naturally they were going to get fucking wasted. “Is it too cold out to get some air? I’m feeling risky, you don’t have any cigarettes on you, do you?” @emberraerussell​
