The night was freezing, more than she was expecting it to be. They hadn’t planned or prepared for anything like this. The rain was making it difficult to find wood that could even make a suitable fire. Instead all they had was a small fire and the embers to keep themselves warm. Of course that wasn’t going to do much help. Looking over at Merek she couldn’t help herself but laughing thinking about the situation. It was just supposed to be a trip to the town a day rides away but instead they were stuck in the woods at night with the rain pouring down on them. “Not exactly what we planned. But I guess it will do.” She said. Looking back at their attempt at the fire she inched closer hoping it would give her some amount of warmth but it didn’t work.
Pulling her cloak tighter around herself she looked back over at Merek. He was staring straight into the fire, maybe hoping that by looking at it that it might warm him up a bit. But she could see that he was shivering. He wasn’t saying anything but he looked absolutely freezing. Reaching up she pulled on the ribbon that held her cloak closed and pulled it off her shoulders. She stood up and walked over towards him. “You look freezing Merek.” She said. The boy shook his head, “No, no I’m fine. Don’t worry.” He told her, brushing off the topic. Colette could tell he was trying not to worry about himself but thinking of a million other things but himself. “Don’t be stupid.” She said sitting down next to him putting the cloak over his shoulder and then hers. “We can share body heat. Try and make us both a bit warmer.” She said moving in close next to him. “I don’t know about you but I am really hating the rain right about now.” She laughed, resting her head on his shoulder. It wasn’t much, just a cloak and another person but she was already feeling better.
