I've had AT&T DSL since it was literally available here in my town. I was one of their first DSL customers, picked due to my distance to the CO and tech savvy, and helped them troubleshoot some issues before it rolled out to everyone else. Not once did they ever cap my data even though there was a cap in place. I was told at one point that they call you if you keep going way over month after month to alert you and that's it. I switched to COX at some point for cheaper faster speeds and a much higher cap. They also never enforced the cap. When I broke my leg last year I called them to tell them I would be home streaming a lot and may go over and they told me that they don't enforce it and wouldn't, and would do something similar to AT&T's above mentioned contacting me if I am going over a lot. A few months ago I upped my plan again so I am supposed to have 100+ down and 10 up so my security cams had bandwidth, esp at night. I was running into my limit out at night w 5 cameras running and sending email would take 5 minutes. This plan also came with a high "cap" and again I was told it would not be enforced. Today, I got the above email telling me they are going to start enforcing the cap and charging for overages. Looking at my usage, I stream a lot, I stream 4K UHD, I download games for my consoles at 60gb-100gb each, and now I am going to have to start paying attention to when I download new games and what I stream and that makes me disappointed. I am working more now so I'm away from the house more, so my usage should go down during the day and then to my normal night usage, which may help. But looking at my current usage, and previous months I've been close a lot... esp the week around E3 when I streamed coverage AND downloaded games on sale. PLus every month Games with Gold has stuff to grab free and there's usually one 60GB game in there. I knew this day would come. We used to get notifications on our phone plan (family plan) because my brother drove a lot for work and streamed sometimes from school/class on bases with no internet provided. But at home its never been a worry. Now with 4K and its 20MBs-30MBs down, 60-100GB video games, etc I have one more thing to worry about. And there is no bigger package with more room. Personally I think my plan should be 2TB or 3TB since I have so much speed available. What do they think we are doing with that speed? Using 1MB a day? No, we use it to its fullest! That is what it's for. I shouldn't have caps, there are plenty of people who barely use theirs, I use mine a lot, it should balance out. Ugh.

Another key difference between these two modems is their compatibility
Motorola MB7621 vs Arris SB6190 When it comes to choosing the right cable modem, the Motorola MB7621 and the Arris SB6190 are two popular options that are often compared. Both modems are well-regarded for their performance, reliability, and compatibility with most cable internet service providers. However, there are a few key differences between these two modems that you should consider before making a purchase.
First, let's take a look at the Motorola MB7621. This modem supports the DOCSIS 3.0 standard, which means it can deliver fast internet speeds of up to 686 Mbps. It also has a compact design and a simple setup process, making it a great choice for those who want a modem that is easy to install and use.
In contrast, the Arris SB6190 is a more powerful modem that supports the DOCSIS 3.0 standard and can deliver internet speeds of up to 1.4 Gbps. It also has 32 downstream channels and 8 upstream channels, which means it can handle more data at once, making it a great choice for those who want to use multiple devices simultaneously.
Another key difference between these two modems is their compatibility with internet service providers. Both the MB7621 and the SB6190 are compatible with most cable internet service providers, but it's important to check with your provider to make sure the modem you choose will work with your service.
One area where the Arris SB6190 has a clear advantage over the MB7621 is in terms of connectivity. The SB6190 has two Gigabit Ethernet ports, allowing you to connect multiple devices to the modem at once, such as a router, gaming console, or a desktop computer. On the other hand, the MB7621 only has one Gigabit Ethernet port.
Finally, it's worth considering the cost of these modems. The Motorola MB7621 is generally more affordable than the Arris SB6190, but you should also consider the long-term cost savings of owning your own modem. By owning your own modem, you can save money on rental fees that are often charged by cable companies for using their modem.
In conclusion, both the Motorola MB7621 and the Arris SB6190 are great cable modems that offer different advantages and disadvantages. If you're looking for a simple, easy-to-use modem that will deliver fast internet speeds, the MB7621 might be the better choice. But if you need a more powerful modem that can handle multiple devices and deliver ultra-fast speeds, the Arris SB6190 is the better option.

How MoCA Made My Home Network Faster Than Mesh Wifi
How MoCA Made My Home Network Faster Than Mesh Wifi
I love fussing with wifi, but when I’m building the backbone of my network in a new location—a house, apartment, or wherever—I tend to go wired as much as I can. Wireless bridges and tri-band mesh/extender setups are great and convenient, but I always appreciate the stability and speed of an Ethernet cable. Read more…
