5. Has your character grown/changed in any way since you began writing them?  

You know what’s hilarious? If you go to check this meme from the source, this question is worded “5. Has your character grown/changed in any way since being brought to the Hive?” It’s obviously in reference to a different Hive, but either way the answer is yes.

Ava has gone through some pretty massive changes since I began writing them. When I first started writing Ava, as is often the case with a fresh OC, I didn’t yet have a very clear idea of their character. I’m not sure if I realized at first that a lot of Ava being a brazen asshole at the time was just to keep a wall up because they were so uncomfortable with intimacy and feeling vulnerable. They sort of started out as a caricature of a narcissist, with their more interesting layers gradually being added after that. It still ended up feeling like a natural progression, though, because Ava had to be coaxed into being willing to open up over time – and that happened mostly through the people who are still their closest friends. Ava’s still a dick, don’t get me wrong, but they’re a little more selective about it when it comes to the small handful that have their trust.

6. Are you confident in this muse?

For the most part, I’d give a solid yes to this question. I have moments of doubt where I’m worried I’ve lost the core of who Ava is because of how much character development they’ve gone through in the two years I’ve been writing them and I sometimes wonder if they’re even recognizable as the same character I was writing then, but outside of that, Ava has a very strong voice, and I often don’t know what they’re going to do in a situation until I’m already midway through writing their response. They keep me on my toes, and it’s a lot of fun speculating on their future character development. It’s pretty open-ended. I can honestly say that I never would have predicted most of the things that have happened with Ava in the past year or so.
