Finally found the time for some birding!
Hi, my name is Paul Silva and I live in Peru, South America. I have been birding every time I can find the time for it, for the past 8 years. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to visit Peru’s Manu National Park multiple times -yup, sooo lucky-, and remember, on one particular trip, our guide being very knowledgeable about the local fauna, and birds in particular… of course he was carrying a little book called Birds of Peru (greatest book of all time, period), which might have helped him a bit.
His passion for birds made instant sense to me -I’ve been an avid bird watcher for as long as I can remember, only I didn’t know it-, and now I can proudly and joyfully say that birding is one of a few hobbies (lifestyles?) I’m stuck with, and trust me, I’ve tried a bunch…
Blogging is, however, pretty new to me! The thing is, every time I go out into the field, and witness all the amazing bird species us Peruvians are lucky to have in our backyard (in case you didn’t know, Peru is #2 in the world for most bird species), I get this urge to want to share my experiences, which is weird, considering I’m what psychologists call introverted (very beneficial, actually).
So here I am… had to read up a bunch on which blogging platforms to use, and how to attempt to make my blogs somewhat interesting. And, of course, the pictures! I’ve been stuck with a dilemma: should I first invest in a powerful camera that can help me take better shots, or do I just jump in with my old and trusty (but not ideal for birding) Canon PowerShot SX50 HS, and start sharing?!
The later prevailed, I but will be saving up for a better camera (I promise) and hope that, in the meantime, the pictures I take of the birds I find do them and you justice!
I have full-time non-bird-related job and am a new-ish parent, so I really can’t tell when I’ll see you next... but I will see you next, I have a feeling!
In the meantime, check out the latest pics I took last month in Cabreria, Arequipa:
Happy birding!
