Its incredible whiplash going back to older 40k books after reading some more recent books. The style of the books are so different its honestly hilarious along with all the weird lore mix ups because they didn't have it all set out as it is now.
Reading Horus Rising-
God the Imperium is so cool, we just want to bring truth and unity and all that. Plus the astartes are just so fucking hot and sweaty all the time 🥵 also if you believe in a god you are a brain dead muppet or evil.
Also Sanguinius has black hair and space marines can wear custodian armour.
Reading The Red Tithe-
Space marines are fucking monsters, they eat the dead, move too quickly and simply don't care about human beings. They will kill you, and the Imperium will not care.
The void is black as pitch and there is nothing to save us but the monsters we built.
Also Arbitrator Rannick has just the worst weekend ever.
