“Cache Bay's Relief Wrangle Is Imaginary "Tale of Woe",” North Bay Nugget. December 2, 1932. Page 1. ---- Welfare Official Says That Sudbury Inspector Was Given Wrong Steer ---- JUST AGITATOR'S TALK ---- Cache Bay, Dec. 2. Considerable indignation has been aroused here in consequence of a report that starvation threatens a number of Cache Bay families and that a riot is in the offing unless relief is dispensed more generously and more equitably. B. A. Bain, a member of the welfare committee, refutes this story by a statement to the effect that every needy family is being issued food, clothing and other necessities on the basis of the Campbell report.
“We are going the limit." said Mr Bain in explaining that the welfare committee is doing everything in its power to meet the situation. There are 120 families under the care of the committee and as far is known all are satisfied with the treatment. being accorded them.
"We have two agitators. one of whom is benefiting by the issues of relief, and they persistently, and without justification. carry complaints to any and all who will hear them," Mr. Bain stated.
He went on to state that these men met W. J. Laforest, Sudbury district relief officer, at Sturgeon Falls, and unloaded an imaginary tale of woe. "Everything has been quiet here. during the past four weeks and we don't anticipate any trouble or suffering" Mr. Fain remarked.
Relief is distributed under the direction of a committee composed of S. P. Boland J, E Jessup, B. W. Bain, Basil Bain and Rev. Father Therriault.
