Hi @cactusmandan! We're a little bit stuck with this guy - he hasn't been watered for a long, long time because he was at first in rubbish soil and then we moved him into our own a couple of weeks ago so we haven't dared water it. Anyway, we were just looking over our collection and noticed that he seemed a bit shrivelled. I poked it at the bottom and it felt soft? So we unpotted them and noticed that they're all very much the same actually - a little bit of softness. But they're also appearing to be corking so we can't decide whether they're in the process of corking or rotting? What would you be inclined to do - leave them or chop them? Also, there are thicker "roots" that we can't decide whether they're pup roots or roots searching for water... This one is seriously confusing us! Thank you for your help! :D

Hello, @cactusmandan ! 

I have a few succulents that I’ve noticed haven’t been doing as well as I would like them to be doing and was hoping you could give some suggestions on how to best proceed! 

My moon cactus has some brown spots on the pink area and I’m not sure if they’re sunburned or something else?? The tiny spines growing out of the top are black and (as you can see) most of the spines on the sides are brown.  I currently have it in a box so it’s not exposed to direct sunlight- is that even necessary? Why are some of the spines brown and others black?

One of the leaves on my tiny jade plant is bumping up against the other stem- should I remove it and try to propagate it (if that’s even possible) or just leave it there? Also the bottom leaves are looking a little wrinkly and I’ve been watering it every few weeks or so and they’ve never been super-duper plump like a normal jade plant (this is an offshoot of a bigger one that I have and it came from one of the leaves that got mostly knocked off of a larger plant, but was still attached and started to grow a new plant!) Is it just the leaves aging or is it something else?

I also have a crassula brevifolia that I accidentally knocked a few leaves off of one morning so I’m trying to propagate them (as you can see in the next few photos)! Will that stem on the plant grow any more leaves or is it just dead? 

Also, in terms of the leaves, how long should I wait until I bury the leaves? Right now, I’m just letting them dry out and scab over (which is what I’ve gathered is the first step in propagation from the bit of information gathering I did), but should I keep the leaves dry or keep the soil they’re on damp? Should they even be on soil? 

Also, for the one that’s already grown roots, should I bury the roots or wait for them to make a new plant? 

And last, but not least, I have this Haworthia (affectionately named Xanthor after the haworthia retusa family xanthorrhoeaceae) and I noticed that there's a root that's growing, but it’s growing into another leaf!! D: Should I remove the leaf and try to propagate it and if so, how should I go about doing that? 

I also keep Xanthor in the open box with the moon cactus because the leaves were kind of a deep red-ish brown (as you can see on the underside of the leaves in the foreground). I keep my succulents in a window that faces west (aka my only window as I live in a tiny apartment), but there’s a tree that blocks some of the light. Should I worry about Xanthor getting too much sun?

Echinocereus polyacanthus was my first guess for this guy..

However, I am thinking that it may be something else now. What are your thoughts on this, could you help me ID this please <3 :) ?

Hi Dan! @cactusmandan We've recently noticed these little spots come up on this guy... They're hard to the touch, harder than the rest of the cactus really, but we're unsure what they are as they seem really oddly spaced? Thank you for your help! Xx

Hey, @cactusmandan, do you have any helpful sites in identification of members of Cactaceae. I was told that you might be able to help from a friend and would really appreciate this.

@cactusmandan I am currently trying to get an I.D. on this plant and it has become relatively difficult to find a trail based on the morphology that it has, a good friend told me to come message you. If you could please help me figure out what plant I have I would be ecstatic. It has very similar markings of that found in the Genera Senecio which also has the Syn. Kleinia. It has leaves that appear but do not last long out of relatively newer branches. When these branches themselves fall off they root relatively easily. This plant however, lacks in one thing this genus is known for. The flower on this does not appear to be a wind dispersed pseudanthium. The flower is yellow and I could not get a good macro on it. (looks similar to that of a flower found in family Euphorbiaceae. Please help <3
