Carving up Cadrona
Shortly after parking our bus at Q-box inQueenstown, a cute little camper place arranged from a few shipping containers, we headed into town to scope out what was on offer. On every street corner there were "extreme sports" shops, trying to sell snowboard packages to bungee jumps and everything possible in between! We booked ourselves in for skiing and snowboarding the following day and after getting kitted out and a few beers later we headed back to the van for a quick kip before setting our alarms for early o clock to catch the bus up the mountain!
The snow reports were good and we are so glad we took the bus option as halfway up, snow chains had to go on and there were a few tourists, snow chains in hand, scratching heads and looking pretty bewildered! We made it to the top where we donned our gear and hit the slopes. We tried the practice slope at first as we needed to brush up on our skills and Sean gave Roz a quick lesson in how to snowboard.
After a few runs we headed up the mountain to tackle the good stuff, It was pretty overcast all morning and so cold that mine and Roz's hair was freezing into icicles and would snap completely off if you touched it! The slopes were amazing and it felt so good to be back on the white stuff again! We stopped off midday to defrost with hot chocs and muffins and then got straight back to it. It was an incredible day and thankfully…we all made it back to downtown in one piece! We finished the day off with a famous Ferg Burg which was delish and got chatting to an English couple who had come on holiday and she had broken her arm on the slopes second day in!! I think it was pure luck that we all escaped the slopes unscathed! Another absolutely amazing day in the Paradise that is New Zealand.
