SHORT STRAW
I wish I could write a good review about Short Straw, but this cafe was just not my cup of tea!! This cafe is in a side street off Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn.
I went there with three of my friends a few weeks ago, and it is not the best experience I have had. We were seated on a squishy table, which should be for two, not four, and all the the tables surrounding were very close. They are trying too hard to make use of their inside space, which just makes it a bit uncomfortable.
The staff are not the most friendly people I have ever encountered, and do not seem too keen to be working there or to be serving you (but maybe this was just the two or three people we were served by).
The menu is very edgy and the only ‘regular’ thing on there is eggs on toast. The other things were very interesting, and it seemed like they were trying to fit too much onto one plate at the same time. I ordered the smashed avocado and an ice coffee. The ice coffee was fine, but the smashed avocado was pretty average.
The pricing was pretty reasonable for what you were buying, but I would rather have spent it somewhere else.
This is just my experience at this cafe, so I don’t want to give it a bad name!!
