Hey Judge, quick question. I have both Damping Sphere and Caged Sun (I choose red) on my field. Will I still be getting the extra red mana from my Mountains since the source that’s giving me the extra mana is from Caged and not from the actual land since it would otherwise trigger Damping Sphere?
Yes, you’ll still get the extra mana from your red-producing lands.
Damping Sphere’s first ability only stops tap abilities that directly add more than one mana from the ability itself, such as on the Ravnica bounce lands or Arixmethes or the Tron lands. Effects that give you extra mana when you activate mana abilities, such as Caged Sun, add that extra mana after the fact and don’t modify the mana ability of the land itself. In this case, one plus one doesn’t equal two.
(Also, Caged Sun affects all lands that you tap for red mana, not just your mountains!)
Caged Sun is a powerful narrative adventure that follows three teenagers as they try to deal with issues of bullying, peer pressure and abuse.

Topi’s Daily Card #1074: Caged Sun
While Gauntlet of Power gave you nearly this same effect, for one mana more you have Caged Sun effect only your side of the board instead of everyone running that color. That one mana makes all the difference and makes this card generally the more powerful version of the artifacts, although some people would run both for redundancy. Doubling your mana of a single color and boosting creatures of that color are all great, and that color-matters theme means it’s best in a monocolored or two color deck at most. Any deck can be super mana hungry, so if you’re looking for some great late game ramp in any color deck, Caged Sun is a perfect fit.
