Come on! We all know they pull this kind of prank and we all know that Lei wants Shancai to be happy with Ah Si but at some point, he wants Shancai too but he had to let her go. If that's not what you call a selfless love idk what is.

I realised my blog has been full of MG 2018 posts lately (sorry to my followers for flooding your dashboard with it :’D). I can’t help but re-watching it because it brings back memories and my love for the 2001 version. Honestly, I didn’t have any expectation for the 2018 version but I ended up enjoying it as much as the 2001 version; both are good in their own ways. 

Also, I’m still not over my most fave character in the remake: 

Hua ze Lei a.k.a the reason for my second lead syndrome

I’m loving Darren’s portrayal of Lei because aside from his cutie face, the 2018 version Lei has a sense of humour and low-key savage XD. I’ll admit he’s not perfect and he has his jerk moments too, but his character grows as he learnt about true love. I’ve seen comments about Lei being a selfish friend for stealing his best friend’s love and while I can see their point, Lei actually shows his support in the end? Lei is unpredictable, but he has his own ways of supporting his friends and he does cherish Shancai and values F4 friendship. 

Talking about cherishing Shancai, I’ve been a hard shipper of Lei x Shancai back in the 2001 version and now I’m shipping those two again in the 2018 version. 

You might ask, “Why not Jing?” 

Good question, I’ve thought about that for a while, she’s Lei’s first love after all.  It’s somewhat different than the 2001 version where in season 2, when Jing came back, Lei already fell out love. Now call me delusional or anything, but I always believe that Lei and Shancai have a special connection from the beginning. To me, Lei’s feelings for Jing is more of admiration than that of romantic love. With Shancai, even though Lei admitted that he almost fell for her, I think he already did. The 2018 version did focus more on their friendship than the love triangle, but seeing those two together always gives me warmth and a sense of safety. The way they smile at each other, I can’t help but ship them. 

I’m feeling emotional as I made this post, how I wish the 2018 version have a plot twist where Lei and Shancai ends up together, but then I’m also happy for Dao ming Si.

Bitch I swear, if I was Shancai and my friends pull this kind of shit on my wedding day saying that Ah Si married to Xiaozi the monkey girl, and Zhuang telling me to choose a husband among the F3 and these three idiots were standing in front of me like that, there's a 112% chance of me grabbing Lei's hand and running to the nearest (real) church to recite my wedding vows that I made since 2001! Try me!? 😂

Lei knows Shancai more because he was always there for her no matter if the situation could break his friendship with Ah Si or not. But probably because he's an observant and introverted at the same time.
