She woke in a bed that wasn’t hers, yet it still felt like home. Even more than her own place did. Aside from her master’s house back in Japan, she hadn’t truly considered anywhere she’d lived home. But this... these warm sheets, the scent of freshly water plants all around her. She could certainly get used to it.
Awareness trickled back into her still waking mind and Chris bit down on her lower lip to keep from smiling too widely to herself. The smell of coffee heralded Cain’s return to his own bedroom and she found the sight of him as striking now as it had been when she’d first met him. The thought slipped past her lips in a voice tinged by the upwards tilt on the corners of her lips.
But he’d taken it the wrong way. “No. Not like that.” She corrected him right away, extending an arm not so she could take the mug he’d been about to offer, but to cover his hand with hers. “Not I wish it hadn’t happened.” A rush of timidity very much unlike her took over, coloring her cheeks a bright shade of pink. “More like too good to be true...”
