first up... I love you 😭😭😭 but like also 🤔 I don't think he would remember his last name. he canonly didn't remember his birthday either until thalia told him a month before moa. so I assume he's just "jason". and like this pairs well with octavian who is someone who gets power through his name, but JASON is the one who is being glorified instead. I can imagine octavian using his full name because he's like, proud of it and who he is, but also taunting no-family Jason.... (1/2)
only for Jason to be praised instead of him.... now this could be a dynamic in the roman series 🤔 but also plays out to the fact that in hoo, jason uses his full name with pride once he learns of it, while we never see octavian use his full name instead 😳🥰 also 😘 ur the best hehe (2/2)
!!!!!! ily2!!!!!!!!! ur essays/post things are the best!!!! i love em so much because they make me think of stuff I've never thought about before!
also. Just Jason is so funny but so sad at the same time because rome is a society built on familial bonds and using your family name to get you places but Jason’s only leverage is his dad who canonically Does Not Give A Shit and people constantly reminded jason that he’s a son of Jupiter and that’s it. jason would’ve grown up without a last name and just. Jason. that's so sad!
that's why a new rome prequel series is so interesting because ‘son of Jupiter who was raised by wolves and is now looked to to save new rome, a city and army built on child soldiers who die. all the time.’ is so fucking cool.
god. also! octavian using his family to one-up jason and make him feel lesser is so good. and i could even see this heart-to-heart where octavian talks about how his family has only ever cared about status and octavians connection to apollo but never about him and tries to tell jason that family doesn't mean everything. its kind of touching and they’re never really friends but they reach a kind of. understanding?.
and yes!!! when jason learns his name and birthday and that he has family he never shuts up about them. his birthday is a sacred day to him because up until dakota found out when he was 12, jason never had one. wolves don't have birthdays so why should jason?.
the connection to the mortal world (last name, birthdays, who his mortal family is) is jason’s way of steping out of his father’s shadow and trying to be more than a hero juno/new rome want him to be. it’s humanizing, for him.
anyways jason’s backstory is batshit and 100% should have been explored more but no. instead we got. i dunno. two povs of tartarus.
