He won his first two races in his juvenile year, 2013, including the Nashua Stakes, before he fell short just a nose to Honor Code in the Remsen Stakes.
In his classic year this year, he landed the Holy Bull Stakes before finishing fourth behind Constitution in the Florida Derby, which would prove to be the early spring Kentucky Derby favourite’s last race, as injury cut short his career.
Cairo Prince retires with a record of 5: 3-1-0 and $562,000 in earnings, and will be the first son of his sire to stand at stud.
"This is a horse that was an absolute top 2-year-old and then showed the 3-year-old brilliance to be the favorite for the Kentucky Derby … He's also an absolutely gorgeous individual by one of the hottest young stallions in America. Everything is in place for him to be a top stallion and the commitment that Airdrie and Darley have made to the horse will help get him there," said Airdrie Stud owner Brereton Jones.

Cairo Prince is out of the Kentucky Derby due to an injury sustained in his left front ankle. He will be sent to Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital for further evaluation.
