WWX bought the sign, hung it up, and then plastered it with masking tape that he wrote the (with Wei Wuxian) on. JC hates it entirely but it also is so fucking funny to see LWJ glare at it any time they host a friend night that he doesn't take it down.

modern chengxian headcanons?? 😘

A lot of the same basic chengxian ones carry over from the other post. Like they’re still switches, still dumb levels of competitive, still incredibly domestic. 

Otherwise:

wwx lives and breathes kpop and annoys jc incessantly with it but then will hit him with some rap from time to time and jc misses the kpop nightmare

they live in a loft. one of those refurbished old industrial style ones 

awkward family brunches on the weekends complete with wwx and jyl snickering to the side while jc faces the incredulity of his mother for them being together

wwx is a chemistry grad student and an ultra science nerd and jc loves that so dearly but also never stops teasing him for it

jc, on the other hand, followed in line with what his parents wanted and is studying to be a prosecutor

i have an indie modern au in my docs that is basically wwx being that guy that just fucks off and travels around blowing through his parents’ money to deal with his grief over their deaths and when he does come back home he calls jc and jc, despite all the grumbling and heated cursing, picks him up and brings him back to his flat to stay. there’s a lot of them using unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with life and each other and it’s a modern intellectual piece on coming to terms with yourself via the support of someone that, for all intents and purposes, shouldn’t be around for you. a whole bunch of my psych studies are dumped into it

The funny thing about MDZS in response to your latest anon replies is that the point of most of these cultivation sects is that a lot of its members are growing up together constantly and being raised communally. Are inner sect marriages incest now? Lol.

They literally send their kids and disciples off to be educated by each other. Inter-sect relations are such a key piece of the plot for MDZS and in light of that, I’m pretty sure that YZY and Madam Jin were sworn sisters marrying off their babies so would that, by fandom definition, make xuanli as equally incestuous as chengxian? Honestly there is so much room for discourse and debate on this topic with this set of characters and this universe. I could write an entire dissertation of the inter-connectivity of the sects and clans alone and make everyone feel some type of way.

As for the “adoption” of WWX, it’s a hilarious hypocrisy that exists within a section of the fandom which dictates when and what points it’s okay to play the “WWX was a Jiang” card. A lot of times I see that the crowd most often against establishing them as brothers are the same set that are first to rally up and claim that shipping them is incestuous and gross due to them being bros. It’s fun to watch them implode when asked to support either of those claims. 

Fact is, WWX isn’t a Jiang and just as easily could have been in any other sect and was only a member of Yunmeng Jiang due to his father being JFM’s man. It’s canon that CSSR bounced around in her day and that they settled in Yunmeng due to WCZ’s status and post. Otherwise who knows where the wandering Wei family would have been. WWX could have just as easily been a rogue cultivator. There’s a lot of potentials there.

Honestly, unless WWX does it first, the only way JC would ever be able to confess to him is drunk and then WWX would just think he's drunk and being silly. So the fact that Q gave us this blessing is going to live rent free in the lofty regions of my chengxian brain.

Also he's drunkenly lamenting like some spinster aunt and I adore that as a vibe.

For the record, I am definitely NOT the founder of this most beloved ship. Like, my tumblr was made in November and I barely register in the tag (shoutout to the longstanding cx crew like @hisohiso). I don't even know how you made this conclusion, but it's flattering for you to associate me with chengxian 🌟😌

As for their chemistry; if you don't see, you don't see it. I'm not out here asking or forcing folks to ship them. I'd personally link you to an entire YT playlist of chengxian amvs that showcase and highlight their peak moments and set their chemistry against some slapping beats but, again, I'm not forceful about these things and the artistry would be lost on you going off the demonstration of brain power in this ask.

In conclusion, I didn't found the chengxian supremacy and would rather die a rotten death than live in the knowledge that some people really read or watch MDZS, see any of Jiang Cheng's and Wei Wuxian's interactions and think "hm yes, big bro vibes only."

that last message i sent you got me thinking, how come no one in mdzs/cql fandom has a problem with liushen but so many people hate chengxian, even though both ships are between martial brothers and go against the main canon romance in their series? 🤔

This is a topic of discourse that @seethefakemuses and I circle back and talk on quite a bit since we're both apparently nuance nerds and forever suffering in fandom. We've decided and agreed upon a twofold answer that actually folds up into one with further reflection.

One, bingqiu isn't as largely fussed over as the other couples and so liushen breaking them up doesn't chafe as many asses. Two, loads of fans tend to do a lot of projecting onto wangxian and play it up to be the Ultimate Romance and so a ship that goes against that rattles them. Throw in that bit of MXTX saying not to break them up and you have a hivemind of idealization.
