Hi there! I haven’t posted anything in awhile huh? I’m hoping I can change that so for now here’s something I made yesterday for an rp! This is me and @artistic-nightowl​ ‘s boi Caladri. Annnnd well, he ain’t having too good a time right now-

When I was asking for other people's characters to draw scruffsasus sent me a ref for Iris. She's an adorable Red Panda so of course I couldn't say no.

For me: Plymouth Gin mixed with whipped cream.

I was kind of going for Old Crow because there is absolutely no reason to drink it other than to destroy your mental functions. That stuff is foul.

On Etymology

Etymology -- the study of word origins -- can be quite interesting in and of itself, and it's a useful tool if you encounter a word you've never seen before and know nothing about. But it's only that: an occasionally useful tool, not a superlative and concrete definition. 

Language changes rapidly, and the parts of an English word may be well over two thousand years old. It's frankly absurd to think that the word's meaning hasn't changed in that time. When you add in all the historical and political and personal wrinkles -- i.e., the humanity -- it's even more absurd. Someone may have coined an English word hundreds of years ago based on a faulty knowledge of latin and an entirely misguided idea of the subject they were trying to make a word for! You've only to look at scientific nomenclature to see how often 'faulty understanding of the subject' comes into play: "We call it X because a hundred years ago we thought it DID X and now we know it doesn't but that's what it's called" happens kind of a lot. Sometimes things get corrected, sometimes they don't. In lay usage they usually don't.

Basing your argument on etymology is generally a sign that you're stretching too far.

Thanks, everyone! "The Crud" is the technical, doctor-approved name for it, by the way. I just went in (as I never, ever, ever do when I'm sick), the doc said that I don't seem to have secondary infections or bronchitis or laryngitis or anything except "a staggeringly bad case of The Crud."

The he wrote me an Rx for codeine cough syrup and told me to eat jellybeans.
