calcifer feels threatened. he doesn’t like the idea of any witch or wizard being more powerful than his master. so he strolls in and purposefully knocks over a glass, acting like a petulant cat looking to sabotage merlin’s worktable. not a wise decision, considering he doesn’t know what’s in it. but the familiar has a terrible habit of acting first, thinking later, much later, when the repercussions are unavoidable.
