On the was discovering the beauty of life in the small and the everyday things. Nana is the most inspiring, courageous, humorous and supportive adult a child could wish for gently guiding CJ towards wonder and pride. We love this book for it’s message and for it’s bold beauty. No wonder it won a #caldecotthonor and we don’t think it should be missing from any bookshelf. For us it is also an important and early resource to teaching my white child that even though we are all different we all deserve equal peace, love and respect. I’m having so much fun reading picture books that are new to me when I sub. It was a pleasure to meet Alma Sofia Esperanza José Pura Candela - a small girl with a really long name. I, also, loved reading the Author’s Note to my Kinder - 2nd classes, because we all found out why the book was written in the first place! - 📚. If you have those early grades in your life, be sure to check this book out from the library or buy it from your local bookstore. The adorableness of the illustrations really makes the point that are given name is one we should proudly wear. - 📚. Especially if your family is ethnic and they give you a name that may be a bit hard to pronounce. I’m not thinking of anyone particular in our family. Ahem. Katarina.
