Valerie and Alistair have two kids! Caleb and Duncan!
Caleb was born two years before the events of DAI. For the first 5 years of Caleb’s life, Valerie was off trying to find a cure for the calling.
Since Valerie wasn’t around much for the beginning of Caleb’s life, they are closer to Alistair. When Caleb was a toddler, Alistair would tell them stories about being a Grey Warden. As soon as they could walk, they had a sword in their hand. Alistair personally decided to teach Caleb all about being a warrior.
Duncan was born in 9:44 Dragon when the Exalted Council met to decide the fate of the Inquisition. Alistair didn’t want to leave Valerie while she was recovering from childbirth, so he sent Teagan to the Council in his place.
Since the disbanding of the Inquisition, Ferelden’s royal family would spend the summers at Skyhold. Here, Duncan could practice his magic safely. Although the circles were going to become better places for mages, Valerie decided to teach Duncan about magic.
