Beginner calisthenics exercise 3: Pushups. What are the benefits of pushups? Performing them increases your arm (triceps) and shoulder strength, as well as static core strength. They also prepare you for a wide range of other more advanced and demanding moves, such as dips, handstands and a wide range of other arm balances. 💪🏼 How does one start? For a complete beginner, the best is to lower the load by using an incline. Find a bench, a fence, a staircase, a wall or any another elevated support where you can comfortably place your hands. Start high if you are unsure of your strength. Find a position where you can support your body in plank (as straight as possible) with your arms held forward from your shoulders, perpendicular to your torso. Now you can do repetitions. Keep your arms horizontally aligned and breathe in while descending. Breathe out when rising. Do as many as you can while keeping good form. If you can do more than 20 in a row, lower the height a bit. Rest and repeat. For an extra challenge, I give you three variations: 1. Place your arms wider and raise your elbows to align with your shoulders to work your chest more. 2. Lower left picture: Find a support with a space in the middle, like the bike stand I use. Now you can get a greater range of movement in the shoulders by going deeper down. 3. Lower right picture: In the upper position, see if you can gently roll up on your fingertips, working also on wrist strength.
