the struggle i had....with drawing men's hair is embarrassing 💦
also been enjoying some fics and got curious about Callie when she's included, looked into her and also loved Iola! they're now Mine to play with in the future LOL
keana lyn and rohan campbell as callie shaw and frank hardy (1x06), the best dressed kids in town.
i love callie and frank's outfits so, so much in this scene !! as soon as we see them, their clothes tell us everything we need to know about them in this moment.
both frank and callie are clearly wearing their "best clothes" for the entrance exam. they're dressed smartly, but their clothes are obviously cheaper and a little out-dated compared with what the other candidates are wearing.
callie's wearing a dagger collar blouse with a corduroy vest, both of which were more popular in the 70s than in the 80s. it feels like these are pieces that callie has had for a few years but because they're her "sunday best" she keeps them in very good condition and hasn't replaced them. her shoes, white boots with a short stiletto heel, feel a little out of place with her outfit but are clearly newer, like they're her current best shoes. i honestly love this look, i think the patterns and the silhouette are so beautiful, but there's a very clear contrast between callie's smart but dated clothes and the other candidates who are also dressed smartly but in more timeless, subdued and "expensive" looking outfits.
frank is in a similar position, he's dressed smartly, but it leans much more towards a working man's idea of formal -- a neutral plaid pattern shirt and jeans -- than the other candidates, who have the classic "preppy" look going on. frank is dressed for function ("smart") over fashion; the jeans are made to be long lasting, and the shirt is versatile so can be worn at multiple events. i love frank's outfit too, it's within his colour scheme and i think it reflects his tendency to be very grounded.
the distinction between the candidates who have been born into this elite world and callie and frank who have working class backgrounds is so important for highlighting the way they are both trying to take control of their own futures. if frank chose it, he'd have a free-ride to rosegrave and to a lot of opportunities, but he's been raised away from that sort of environment. on multiple occasions we see he can't take the pomp and pageantry of rosegrave seriously, and his clothes reflect that -- he's a legacy student who is actively turning his back on that legacy.
however, callie is striving for everything frank is turning down. her intelligence alone should be enough to thrive at rosegrave, but her socio-economic situation (reflected through her outfit and how she presents herself) is "holding her back". in another episode, she confirms that she has faith in her intelligence but not in her appearance. she clearly tries harder than frank to "look the part" and still falls short.
both callie and frank has a distinct disdain for the rich kids they're competing against, but callie is more willing to try and blend in because she feels she needs the opportunity in order to make the most of her potential.
The trailer is finally out for the final season of Hulu's "The Hardy Boys"!!! :D Season 3 looks great too and going by this trailer Bailee Maidson's Drew Darrow for sure is the show's version of Nancy Drew and nice that she moved to town and is Callie's roommate. I'm also curious to see how the boys and Nancy's/Drew's relationships are too comparing it to all the other adaptations.
I honestly feel like in the ATAC Ace world, he wouldn't know Callie until after he leaves ATAC. I can see her being part of Grant's return. And although I ship Grant and Tom Swift somewhat, imagining him deciding to help take down the Road Back and then meeting Callie Shaw forensic scientist? He would immediately be smitten and Ace would love her.
A terrible part of me is like Casefiles Iola! Casefiles Iola! Because in Casefiles Iola Morton (Joe’s long term girlfriend for those who don't know) is killed in an attempt to kill the Hardys and having a dead ex-girlfriend would be fun to work in with the Horseshoe Bay ghosts.
But honestly, I can imagine her being the one that got away, his childhood sweetheart girlfriend before Laura who he didn’t tell about ATAC despite having very strong feelings for her and she ultimately comes to mistrust him and leave him (which would explain why Ace no longer keeps anything secret from his love interests). She still genuinely cares for him but the trust is no longer there to sustain a relationship. I think she'd be a massive fan of Nancy though. She would know Ace well enough to know Nancy is perfect for him.
When it's evident Frank is struggling with sleep Callie and Chet come to the rescue. The three of them make discoveries about themselves, and Frank discovers he really likes it when his best friends play with his hair. Because they were best friends. Best friends, right?
So while it isn’t the biggest news I saw that they posted the logo for the new Hardy Boy’s TV show... plus they cast some of the reoccurring characters from the book so I am pretty excited
