I've been playing around with different color mixes these past few days. I always like to pair muted colors with a couple of dark or vibrant ones. It's always been a fascination to me how colors can affect your moods. They can bring joy, happy memories or even sadness at one point. I just love to see how I can tone down the chroma of each colors that sometimes can be challenging especially if they are too pigmented or strong to start with. . If you guys are wondering the process how I do this, I just identify colors by their color temperature. Whether they are warm or cool color. A color that has more blue or green in it is considered as cool, a color that has more red or yellow in it is considered as warm. So for example, a Viridian is considered cool because it has more blue in it, a Scarlet is considered warm because it has more yellow in it. . Then of course I just need to know the basic knowledge of the color wheel, like identifying which ones are complimentaries. If I want to mute a color, I will add a little bit of its complimentary color, if I want to neutralize them then mix a 50/50 ratio since complimentary colors cancel each other out. If I want to lighten it then I add white. Btw, this mixing is for opaque paints hence the addition of white but if you want to mix this with watercolors instead of adding white you simply add water to lighten the color. . I hope this helps somehow in your color mixing, but the best teacher really is yourself. It's better to try them so that you can really see how it goes. Try also altering the ratio so instead of 50/50 ratio you can do 60/40, 70/30 and so on. • • • • • #color #colorswatches #colorpalette #colorcombinations #colormixing #gouache #postercolor #paints #calligrafikas #dreweuropeo https://www.instagram.com/p/CPx4UBiDRmB/?utm_medium=tumblr
